Since winning the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation
Young Artists Debut Competition , Linda Maguire's elegant vocal
richness, versatile vocal technique and commanding, dramatic presence
have brought her both national and international acclaim.
She most recently made her highly praised and uniquely successful debut as Vitellia in
La Clemenza di Tito for the Dallas Opera, (opposite Frederika von Stade
as Sesto).
She sang the title role of Rossini's Ermione, filmed and recorded by the BBC
for the Glyndebourne Festival Opera, Dido in Dido and Aeneas with the
Houston Grand Opera (later filmed by the CBC, on location, at the Versailles Court
Theatre in France), the role of Orfeo in Gluck's Orfeo ed Euridice with the
Stichting National Reisopera, led by Marc Minkowski in the Netherlands,
Donna Elvira in Mozart's Don Giovanni at the National Arts Centre in Ottawa,
Iphigenie in Gluck's Iphigenie en Tauride with Toronto's Opera in Concert
Orchestra, and Sylva in Kálmán's Die Csárdásfürstin
for Toronto Operetta Theatre. Other filmed work includes Vivaldi's Orlando Furioso,
recorded by the CBC-TV in a docudrama format.
Recent orchestral engagements included Verdi's Requiems with the Calgary
Philharmonic Orchestra, the Vancouver Bach Society and the Oahu Choral
Society, Last Night of the Proms concerts with Bramwell Tovey and the
Toronto Symphony Orchestra, Mahler's Eigth Symphony with the
Washington Choral Society and the National Symphony Orchestra,
Rossini's Stabat Mater with Chorus Niagara, a December 31st Viennese
Millennium Celebration Concert with the North Carolina Symphony, a concert of Handel's
Arias from Trouser Roles with Jeanne Lamon and the Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra
(CBC numerous rebroadcasts), Mozart's C-Minor Mass with L'Orchestre Symphonique
de Montreal, Penderecki's Polish Requiem with the Vancouver Bach Society,
Last Night of the Proms and Beethoven's Ninth Symphony with the Toronto Symphony
Orchestra. Recordings include Handel's Resurrezione with Les Musiciens du Louvre,
recently released to critical acclaim on the Deutsche Grammophon Archiv label. Other
recordings a highly acclaimed CD which includes Berlioz' Les Nuits d'Ete, Wagner's
Wesendonklieder and Respighi's Il Tramonto, recorded with the CBC Vancouver
Orchestra, Mario Bernardi conducting. Also, a recording of Sir Peter Maxwell Davies'
Job with Collins Classics, a recording of Verdi's Requiem, made in
Prague with I Virtuosi di Praga (all proceeds of which go to benefit victims of
land mines through World Vision), and her recording of Elmira in Handel's Floridante,
with the Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra won the prestigious 1993 Juno Award.
2001 CD releases include a disc featuring Linda's performances of Timothy Sullivan's
Magic Casement and Soft and Golden Fire (2001 ClassicXdiscs). Please refer

Upcoming engagements include featured performances with the Richmond Symphony Orchestra,
the National Symphony Orchestra and the Honolulu Symphony Orchestra as well as
numerous upcoming solo recitals and chamber concerts events (Please refer to Linda's
Itinerary page.) Ms. Maguire also does a considerable amount
of fund-raising and company building events, gala benefits and charitable work. Please see the

Linda's versatility has always extended comfortably and successfully into popular and Broadway
repertoire. She has a full recording of Gershwin's music with the CBC Radio International Series,
and has sung Pops Concerts for many professional orchestra and organizations including the
Vancouver Symphony, Edmonton Symphony, Calgary Philharmonic, Toronto Operetta Theatre, etc.
This year, Linda is expanding even more into exciting and popular vocal arenas with programs that span
the repertoire from Schoenberg's Cabaret Songs (CBC recording available) to Andrew Lloyd Webber.
Linda has also made her distinctive mark on new works, regularly commissioning and overseeing her own
performance material. Upcoming new works include the world premiere of the Timothy Sullivan/John Murrell
dramatic cantata Josephine, debut in New York City with Center for Contemporary Opera
and Andrew Ager's Ellis' Portal, for the Talisker Players of Toronto. She appeared with
the Boston Lyric Opera as the legendary American evangelist, Sharon Falconer in Robert Aldridge's
Elmer Gantry, and recreated the historic British heroine, Florence Nightingale in Timothy
Sullivan's Florence, the Lady with the Lamp with Noel Edison's Elora Festival.
